♰♰ Setting ♰♰
♰♰North Hollow is a quiet little town. Many of the residents like living here. Its pretty secluded, about an hour from any substantial city. Surrounded by suburbs on one side, and farmland on the other. Only about 2,000 or so residents. Nothing truly interesting happens in the town itself. But just up the road, hidden down a long, winding dirt road, stashed amongst the trees, its there. The Asylum. Of course that's not quite politically correct now is it. North Hollow Psychiactric Institution and Rehabilitation Center. That's what it's called. As far as mental hospitals, its not half bad. The food is decent, the rooms are quite spacious, and it kind of reminds everyone of an undersized hotel. As you enter, you can notice that it seems too good to be true. Its not a colorless death trap. There's carpeting, painted walls, plants in pots. The admission's desk is made of some kind of beautiful cherry colored dark wood, lined with delicate gold inlays. There's windows, presumably bullet proof or the like, lining the hallways in this area, showing into the beautiful courtyards. Flowers and trees, benches and tables. It all looks rather nice.
The staff seem friendly enough, as well. All smiles and polite, friendly words. It almost seems like this would be the perfect place to be. But I hear that it depends on why exactly you're visiting them. And that's the thing too, visiting. Perhaps there are permanent residents somewhere, but the staff always try and push you to enjoy your visit, and get back to your real life as quickly as you can.
As you make it into the observation area, you'll notice the doors are made of thick glass, and locked in place by some kind of steel. It's almost frightening really. 3 days you spend here. It's more for them to get to know what's wrong with you before they decide what kind of colored band you need around your wrist, almost like visiting an amusement park, instead of a hospital. Whether you check yourself in, or are brought in kicking and screaming, you will always wind up here.
And that's where you meet him for the first time. Shai.
Dr. Trevelyn established this fine architecture. He doesn't look or act like many of the other doctors, but deep down it seems like he does genuinely care about his patients. He always makes sure he gets to know every single one of us too. He likes it better if we call him Shai instead of Dr. Trevelyn too. Makes it seem like maybe he can be a bit more trustworthy.
As you head out of your horrible observation stay, you are brought to one of three residential areas. East and West blocks are split by gender roles. Girls in the East, boys off in the West. These areas are meant for the more stable patients. Ones that get plenty of free time, and time to wander around from place to place and mingle with one another. Then there's South Block. Though it's not officially in its own place like East and West, it's there. This area is meant for the more unstable patients. One's trying to get used to new meds, or ones not on meds at all yet. All of these blocks have pretty similar rooms. Desks, chairs, tables, dressers, beds, for East and West we get actual lamps, writing utensils, and a mirror.
Lastly, there's North Block. If there was a hell in this place, that would be it. It's triple max security. Like, round the clock security guards, nurses, cameras, alarms. And literally prison cells. Everything is bolted to the ground and unbreakable. This is where all of the super violent and criminally insane patients wind up. It's rather scary being there, so seriously, try and avoid it at all costs. Solitary is around North block as well. If you act out or get violent with yourself or others, if you're skipping sessions or refusing medication, solitary is where you go. These cells are usually padded, and there's only a tiny slot in the giant metal door for them to stick your food trays in and out. Usually no one stays here for more than a day or two. Apparently it's bad for your psyche. Go figure.
And that's really about it for this place. Whether you're interested in getting a friend or family member into Rehab, or if they just need to come for a short stay, it's one of the best places in the country. Welcome to North Hollow, Enjoy your visit..♰♰
