Today had been a long day, her morning had began with a quick bite to eat before she was set to organise and label patients prescriptions. She was also set the task of reviewing their dosage and recording any prescriptions that were coming to the end of their recommended course. These notes were then charted and given to her senior, who then instructed her to sit on a session with one of the therapists. This had been a long hour wasted as the patient refused to say anything for the entire session. Following this she was allowed a short lunch, after which she had to spend the next few hours doing carework. Shadowing nurses as they cared for some of the patient and assisting them as and when they needed. This had been less than pleasant, reaching the peak of displeasing when a patient began to go berserk and she had to assist in pinning them down. Getting spat on was not Kanas idea of a good end to a hard days work.
Following this she had met up with some other residents for a group study session, although most of whom were too exhausted to study. Finally Kana left them and made her way to the staff room for some quiet research time. As she arrived she poured herself a cup of coffee, milk with three sugars. Then made her way over to one of the available desks. She pulled out her notes and began to peruse them. They were scattered and too disorganised for her liking. Pulling out a fresh pad and some stationary. She began to re-write them in a neat and well structured manner, highlighting key points and placing asterisks on words and information she would need to do further research on. Maybe it was because it was her first week here, she felt like she was trying harder than she normally did. Her father would be very pleased.
She took a sip of her coffee, savoury the musky bittersweet taste as it coated her tongue. Looking into the cups and swirled the remaining contents, Am I not just trying to distract myself? she wondered. That eerie feeling she felt since she started working at this place still hadn't shifted. Was she really just homesick? Well she was, but it wasn't just that. The air was thick with tension. Kana had never been one to notice these things, but lately something just told her to watch out. Be alert ... At least that's what it felt like her conscience was telling her. You're probably just worried about being attacked by a psycho. The rational side of her brain argued. Yes, that had to be it, she had just watched one too many horror movies.
