Dr. Rian Shai Trevelyn
It was a rather sunny morning, and Shai was making his way into work. He figured it was just going to be another day. At least this time he was actually on time with his schedule, and not hungover. It didn't happen to him often. Usually that bottle of wine was his best friend. Jake would definitely be proud of him. He got in his car and started to drive to work. But after a little bit he realized he still hadn't eaten breakfast. And as long as he was stopping to get breakfast, he should probably get something for Jake too. And maybe something for lunch. So he drove across town to his favorite store. Just a little hole in the wall place that sold some really, really good food. As he walked in, he noticed a small lump of fur under the mailbox in front of the shop. He ducked down a little to get a closer look. "Hey, there little thing..." Yes, thing. He still quite didn't know what it was, or if it was even a thing. Was it alive? Was it a keychain? Or a Purse maybe? He wondered if he should give up and go in the store. But if he did that, would the thing still be there when he got out?
So, he slowly lowered himself onto the ground. Of course this got him quite a few strange looks and whispers, but most of the people just went on their way. Once he was down far enough to see under the mailbox, he noticed the tail, and the little, triangular ears. One of said ears twitched. A kitten. And it was alive! He kept himself from squealing with delight, as he didn't want to scare the poor thing.
Shai lay there on the sidewalk for a good ten minutes before the shop owner came out, after all, Shai had been coming here almost every day for 4 years now. He looked down at the person sprawled out on the ground. "Oi,Shai. Nice to See you! Lose your keys or somethin?"
Shai moved very slightly, his hand still under the mailbox, the kitten was just starting to gain his trust, so he didn't want to scare it and lose all that effort. "Would you, get me some kind of meat? Lunch meat? Raw meat? Any meat? I'll pay you for it of course, but, in a minute." Shai once again rested his chin on the sidewalk, smiling and looking again at the kitten. The store owner obliged to Shai's wishes, once he realized what the young lad was up to. After all, he had seen that kitten in and out of the alleyways behind his shop for a few weeks now. He returned to Shai with some sliced turkey, looked fresh off of a carving board. Shai thanked him and held a piece out for the little thing to take.
And after a few minutes, it moved slowly towards his fingers, sniffing and licking the meat cautiously. But as soon as it had deemed it safe, the kitten gobbled it down. Shai did this a few more times, until he could pet it's tiny, cute little head. "Come on, love, let's get you some more food, eh?" He smiled and scooped the kitten up, earning a small little mew from it, but not too much of a struggle.
He carried it into the store earning a "Ey~" And some clapping from the employees and the manager, whom had obviously told them about what he was doing out there. "Ya can leave him up here in this box while you shop. I've got 'im a nice little blanket and some water." Shai smiled and thanked the owner, placing the kitten gently in the box. He then took out his wallet, but the shop owner stopped him. "Nah, son. Keep it. Get this little guy a nice meal." Shai smiled, and thanked him again and then took off down the aisles to get what he had originally come here for.
As he was checking out, he was handed a small bag of mixed meats, fish and poultry by the smell, "For the little guy." On top of that, he was told he could keep the dishes, box, and blanket for the little kitten. Shai paid and smiled. He picked up the box and the shop owner helped him carry his bags out to his car. Shai had tried to tip him, but again his money was refused. Something about Shai being a good samaritan.
It took Shai another little while to get to work, he had stopped to pick up a litter box, litter, and a cute little collar. He grabbed the small box and put it in the litter box, along with the food. He grabbed his bags and the small container in his free hand. He wondered how he was going to get all of this upstairs and into his office without Jake noticing. He wondered how he was even going to open the door. But somehow, he managed to get in the employee entrance. He carried it all up the stairs and peeked his head down the office hallway. He didn't see Jake, but that didn't mean he wasn't in his office, which he had to cross in front of in order to get to his own.
As quietly as he could he snuck up to Jake's office, and peeked inside. His door was shut. At least he had that working for him. He moved quickly through the hall, running into his own office and shutting the door. He heard Jake's office door open. He had to move quickly.
Footsteps drew closer. Shai stuffed the box with the kitten and the litter and all kind of evidence into his wardrobe. Jake knocked and opened Shai's door. Shai was sitting at his desk, pulling his breakfast out of the plastic bags. "Oh~ Hi~" The smile on Shai's face was one Jake knew well. He was hiding something.
"You got breakfast? Is that why you're two hours late?"
"Yep~ I got some for you too, I mean, you have to be hungry." Again that smile. Shai was actually kind of surprised the kitten wasn't making any noise. Maybe it had fallen asleep. After all, what's better after a nice full belly and a nice warm safe little box.
Jake grabbed his food off of Shai's desk. "You forgot the coffee."
"You know, a thank you would be nice." Jake just shuffled back to his own office. But Shai was up to something. And he was not going to let this rest. Eventually Shai would screw up. And Jake would know. He had been two hours late, he was acting suspicious. Jake sighed and closed his eyes, siting back down at his desk. Shai couldn't have been cheating on him.. Could he?
